Putting Atmosphere to bed was something I wasn’t ready to do. A short, quick, loud and dirty tour of only six shows ended up feeling like I had just hit my stride when the plug was pulled. But that was by design. Either you were there or you weren’t. Atmosphere was a performance piece for huge crowds made to feel both intimate and spectacular. It wasn’t a festival. It wasn’t a rave. It was simply Atmosphere.
I’ve been asked a few times if I’m bringing my Atmosphere tour to future shows. The answer is no. First, it’d be impossible to drag that staging around from place to place. But the gigs I play for festivals are drastically different than any tour I’ve done. Freaks of Nature and Atmosphere were collaborations between my mind, technology, animators, set designers, music and my heart. When I play a festival or a club, it’s a different recipe. It’s still heart and mind, but it’s more appetizer than main course.
If you were able to make it to Atmosphere, we are connected. Each show was a moment in my life. Moments experienced in both slow motion and fast. Thank you for showing up, thank you for dancing. Thank you for feeling what I felt and thank you for singing along. Most of all, thank you to each person that took a picture, told a friend, wrote a post, or uttered words about what it meant to you. I was there, eyes open and shut, hands in the air and marveling at how we all found each other. Like when we were young, but not even close to being alone.
